Vixen VSD70ss Astrograph
A compact version of the flagship telescope that is easy to use and has the ultimate performance!
The luxurious optical design of 5 elements in 5 groups, including 2 SD lenses and 1 ED lens, realizes an optical system that is almost aberration-free at the same level as the VSD90SS telescope, despite its compact size. This photovisual telescope produces sharp, beautiful and uniform star images from the centre of the field of view to the very periphery of the 35mm full size as well as the large format 44 x 33mm.
Furthermore, it also performs well with visual observation, from stargazing with a wide field of view to planetary observation with high magnification.
The VSD70SS telescope barrel inherits the "optical design that focuses on correcting axial chromatic aberration and astigmatism" of the VSD90SS telescope barrel. It is a compact yet uncompromising photovisual telescope barrel
Inheriting an optical system that achieves zero aberration
The convex lens uses two SD lenses and one high-refractive index ED lens, and the second concave lens from the left uses high-performance lanthanum glass. This makes it possible to suppress changes in the color of the star image and the distortion of the star image caused by focus and squaring deviations to an extremely high level, achieving almost no aberration.
From shooting to image processing, you can expect consistent, easy-to-use and stable shooting results.
Compatible with versatile large eyepiece and focuser
To make the most of the wide φ60mm image circle and abundant peripheral light, a large φ87.5mm eyepiece, common to the VSD90SS, is used. It is compatible with a wide range of accessories and can be used for a wide range of purposes, including large-format and full-size format photography and visual observation. It is also possible to attach a dual-speed focuser (sold separately) for precise focusing, or a ZWO EAF (electric focuser).
Rich light output without peripheral vignetting
Generally, astrographs have peripheral light falloff caused by vignetting, so it is not uncommon for image processing such as peripheral light falloff correction to be required after shooting. The VSD70SS telescope uses a large-diameter lens in the rear optical system, just like the VSD90SS. This significantly improves peripheral light falloff compared to conventional telescopes. It is expected to make peripheral light falloff correction easier during image processing. In addition, by maintaining a rich amount of peripheral light, it eliminates vignetting caused by the optical system (※) and non-axisymmetric flare of bright stars caused by light diffraction, preventing star image collapse around the periphery of the field.
*Depending on the shooting system, vignetting may occur due to the camera body or camera mount.
Excellent performance even for visual observation, from low to high magnification
The VSD70SS has an extremely flat image plane, so when combined with a high-quality eyepiece, a sharp image spreads across the entire field of view when observing with the naked eye at low magnification and a wide field of view. Furthermore, the center of the field of view boasts a multi-wavelength Strehl intensity of 96.7%. It has imaging performance that exceeds the 95.7% of the SD81SⅡ, which is well-known as a high-performance apochromat, and is also suitable for high-magnification observation of planets and other objects.
